ABOUT Us,

GopabandhuInstitute of Medical Science AndResearch is a peerless organization, situated around 40 acres in the hinder land of Athagarh, at-Madhabpur on a luxuriantverdantrecline on the river bank of the great river “Mahanadi”. Servants Ofthe People Society (SOPS) decided to establish an institution to permanently, definitely and categorically serve the poor patients and research work in the state of Odisha.

            In the year 2009 GIMSAR was established with entire medical facilities to care the poor & needy patients with  24X7 ambulance facility, as a mile stone in the year 2011 GIMSAR stepped ahead with the educational institution by initiation School and College of Nursing which made a gateway  to the poor students to perceive their higher studies.

      Florence nightingale opened the very first nursing school in 1860 and laid a path for modern nursing.

      Contribution from nurses to health services is a vital and significant way in this modern health care delivery system. The professional nurse provides holistic care with compassion, empathy and respect for clients, dignity while educating them to achieve maximum level of health. They also participate in those activities contributing to prevention of illness and promotion of health.

Nurses need to recognize national health goals & they are committed to participate in the implementation of national health policies & programmes.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL &COLLEGE

Ø  To provide a broad-based educational programme through which nursing students will be

prepared to assume responsibility at the primary, secondary and tertiary level health

care institutions as professional Nurses.

Ø  To emphasize on the need-based educational programmes for the community

throughout the period of training and enable the under-graduates to identify the

importance of social, behavioural and economic factors with regard to health and

delivery of health care.

Ø  To provide the undergraduates with the appropriate knowledge and skill, so that at the

end of the course they are able to act as a member of the health care team, provide

health care to individuals in health institutions, families and groups in diverse

community settings.

Ø  To be able to supervise and manage health programmes and to undertake teaching /

training assignments in different settings.

Ø  To develop proficiency in the skills and techniques of nursing, based on sound

scientific principles and concepts of nursing by utilizing critical analysis, judgment and

decision making abilities.

take up specialized post graduate programmes.

Faculty infrastructure

The transformation of students as outstanding professionals truly lies in the hands of faculty in any educational institutions. School and College of Nursing GIMSAR having vast theoretical as well as practical experienced faculty in each departments. The faculties are placed in different departments like foundations of nursing, medical surgical nursing, community health nursing, mental health, maternity nursing etc. The faculty members are determined to impact quality education to the students, which has brought the students to achieve the objectives.

Lecture Halls

equipped with advanced teaching aids.

Institute Library

The library of the School and College of nursing ,GIMSAR institute is stocked and equipped with more than 1,000 vital nursing books and  Indian journals, newspapers, periodicals andmagazines. E-journals can be accessed through internet.

Computer Lab

The college has well established computer lab with internet facility which is accessible to alllearners so as to keep themselves updated with the current trends and technologies in nursing.

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Lab

Maternal and child health is given prime attention in our country. The MCH lab is equippedwith maternity examination model, Gynecological examination model, delivery model, chartsand other equipments.

Nursing Foundation Lab

Nursing is a skill based profession. Nursing Foundation Lab is equipped with all advancedequipments, articles, models, charts, and mannequins to enhance the nursing skills of thelearners.

Community Health Nursing Lab

Community lab is well equipped to develop skills for rendering service in rural and urbancommunity.

Nutrition Lab

Nutrition lab is equipped and well furnished with utensils, nutritional charts, models. It is wellventilated, lighting, and adequate water facilities.

Audio-visual Lab

The audiovisual lab consist of OHP, LCD, TV, Posters, Flannel board, Model and otherteaching learning materials for effective teaching learning process.

Common Room

A common room is a place which is supposed to stimulate conversations, discussions and friendships. It is the place where every hostel resident finds a home environment. We have made sure that is the atmosphere that a resident gets when he/she sits in the well-furnished and airy common room. The rooms are quite spacious and every resident is provided with a cot, wardrobe, desk & chair and mirror. The rooms are well-lighted and ventilated.

TRANSPORTATION ZONE

School and College of Nursing GIMSAR has full-fledged transport department to manage a fleet of transport facilities for ease commutation of students, staff and faculties. It ensures hassle-free, flexible and safe commutation

CLINICAL ZONE

Parent Hospital

School and College of Nursing GIMSAR has its own 105 bedded Medical and Research centre with OT & advanced diagnostic laboratory.

Affiliated Hospital

School and College of Nursing ,Gopabandhu Institute of Medical Science & Research is affiliated with 2132bedded (SCB)Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College Hospital- Cuttack, which is one of the oldest hospital which  was raised  in the year 1874 to the status of a General Hospital & (SDH) Sub-Divisional Hospital-Athagrh, our students are senthere for Maternity and Paediatrics , Mental healthtraining.

COMMUNITY ZONE

Students of School and College of Nursing ,Gopabandhu Institute of Medical Science & Research are regularly utilizing the rural and urban community areacovered by community Health Centre, Berhampur, Cuttack.

Activities of the nursing students includes early identification of health problems by regularhome visits, participation in National Health Programmes like Pulse-Polio ImmunizationProgramme, Measles Immunization Awareness Programme, Community NutritionDevelopment Programme, Reproductive and Child Health Services and School Health Servicesetc.

CO-CURRICULAR ZONE

Recreational Activities

Facilities of in-door games like chess, badminton, and carom, and out-door games like volleyball, handball are available for the nursing students. Onehour of outdoor activity per day is promoted for better physical health of the students.

Cultural Activities

Cultural programmes are organized on various occasions. The students are encouraged toparticipate in dance, music,skits, mime shows, tableaux etc to help promote inherent talent of thenursing students.

Yoga Class

            Regular Yoga classes are conducted by well trained yoga teacher to our staffs and students to make them healthy.

SPIRITUAL ZONE

            Gopabandhu Das Spiritual centre is built inside our campus , where the students worship Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman , LordessNilaSaraswati. Daily Bhajan&alati is done in the spiritual centre in the morning and evening time. Prasad is distributed to all devotees.

HOSTEL

Girls and boys have separate hostel facilities. The rooms are well furnished with attached bathrooms.

The hostel block build in good stands as a distinctive structure in the whole campus. Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls. All the hostels have spacious rooms. Each room is attached with a bath and toilet and is occupied by three or two students and each student in a room is provided a cot, table and chair and an Almira. Recreation facilities like television, newspaper, popular magazines and Indoor games are provided in the hostel. First-aid kits and Medical doctors on call are also provided. Laundry facilities are available in all the hostels.All the hostel inmates are provide with breakfast, lunch and dinner which signifies the authentic taste of Odisha.

CANTEEN

A hygienic Mess facility is available round the clock. GIMSAR takes care to serve the students with hygienic food and to keep the kitchen and the dining halls clean and tidy. The concept of GIMSAR regarding the hostel is to make the student feel a “home away from home”.
